~ Bayano Caves ~
Yesterday we took a tour to the caves with our tour guide Enrique. What an adventure. After a two-hour drive, we were taken by boat to a small island. What peace and quiet, and what a view over Lake Bayano. There are showers and toilets on the island so you can change there. We set off for the caves wearing our life jackets and helmets with lights. It was beautiful inside. It was a bit of a scramble, which wasn’t always easy, and sometimes we had to swim. We quickly realized that it’s very important to have sturdy water shoes with some grip. We laughed a lot. Our local guide who accompanied us was super sweet. His name is Kelvin. He helped me so much and made sure I didn’t fall. I must say, I was very tired when we were done, but I’m very happy I did it. It took us about 2 hours. Back to the island by boat. Enrique had provided fruit, which was eagerly eaten. A little later, lunch was served. Fish with patacones and a little salad. Well prepared and tasty. We had brought our own wine, beer, and soft drinks. After lunch, we went kayaking. It was only half an hour, but long enough for me after the exertion in the caves. The kayaking was also beautiful, with high rocks on either side. Afterwards, we changed into dry clothes and took the boat back to the car. We were tired but satisfied after a wonderful tour. A big thank you! ~Bram (67 y.o.)
We visited this impressive cave with our guide Enrique and were thrilled. A certain level of fitness is required, as the ground in the cave is very rocky. Participants should also be able to swim and wear sturdy swimming shoes, then it will be an unforgettable experience. ~Ralf (63 y.o.)
